The Venturi family has been farming grapes in the Calpella region of Mendocino County for over a century. Today Larry Venturi manages the vineyard organically using many of the techniques taught to himfrom his grandfather. These
Sauvignon Blanc was planted around 1945 making these vines some of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vines in the area at near 65 years old. By dry farming the vineyard Larry relies on a strong and established root system to naturally provide these vines with the nutrients they need to produce sweet and flavorful clusters. The resulting fruit is brimming with the varietal characteristics of citrus and bergamot while retaining all of the acidity of a great white wine. In modern vineyards, clonal differentiation is important for capturing certain characteristics from the varietal. However, in old vineyards such as this, they take on their own varietal independence due to many years under the specific climatic conditions. The resulting wine is both crisp and lush, citrus and floral, and delightfully refreshing. After a gentle aging in neutral French barrels, this wine is perfect for a picnic, and elegant enough for a refined dinner party. Soft and tangy on the pallet, Larry’s dedication to longevity pays off in the wine.
